12 Days of Christmas Tradition: Day 6 – Christmas Books

My mom is a teacher so growing up we always had lots of books. During Christmas time she would bring out this big bag of books for us to read that would only stay out during the Christmas season. I can always remember looking forward to her getting out the books. One of my favorite books in the bag was The Sweet Smell of Christmas. I really don’t know why I liked this book so much but I really enjoyed it and it was one of the first ones I added to the collection of Christmas books for my boys.

Instead of bringing out a bag a books, I individually wrap all of our Christmas books. Since the boys are still young we are still in the process of growing our collection. This year we have 15 books total. Some of these are books we had, others have been given to us, and some I have thoughtfully bought to add to the collection. Below is the list:

1. The Sweet Smell of Christmas A Golden Book
2. Christmas Parade by Sandra Boynton
3. The Very First Christmas by Suzanne Berry (Recordable Hallmark book)
4. The Night Before Christmas by Clement C Moore (Recordable Hallmark book)
5. How do Dinosaurs say Merry Christmas by Jane Yolen
6. The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsberg
7. Snowmen at Christmas by Caralyn Buehner
8. An Otis Christmas by Loren Long
9. How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Suess
10. Christmas Magic by Michael Garland
11. Little Reindeer Wants to Play
12. Room for a Little One: A Christmas Tale by Martin Waddell and Jason Cockcroft
13. Pete the Cat Saves Christmas by James Dean and Eric Litwin
14. Merry Christmas Mouse by Laura Numeroff
15. God Gave us Christmas by Lisa Tawn Bergren

This is probably one of the most fun traditions we do! The boys enjoy getting to unwrap a book every other night or so and it changes up the storytime books we read. I highly recommend doing this with your kiddos!!!
